CSV Data Logging for Modbus: What to Record During Commissioning

Live values are useful during a test, but a time-stamped record is often more useful after the engineer leaves the panel. CSV logging provides a lightweight format that can be opened in spreadsheet and analysis tools.

Choose useful tags

Start with measurements relevant to the commissioning task: status, alarms, setpoints, process values and counters.

Keep communication context

Record enough context to understand the dataset later, including the device, register name, units and sampling interval where possible.

Use the data for troubleshooting

A logged sequence can reveal intermittent communication gaps, unexpected state changes or values that drift under load.
